Learning outside the classroom with the Greensand Trust
Welcome back to a new term! We’d like to let you know about the opportunities that the Greensand Trust offers teachers to take learning outdoors. Please take a moment to look at our leaflet (2MB pdf).
This includes a range of programmes for lower and middle schools, linked to the national curriculum, which can be tailored to teacher’s requirements and to fit with themes and topics being explored in school. Programmes for Keystage 3 and 4 can be arranged on request. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities. We can also deliver teacher training sessions on environmental education to help you make the most of school grounds and local greenspaces.
We’ve been delivering education programmes on our sites and as outreach for several years, and last year started to use The Learning Zone and Wadelows Nature Reserve at Poplars Garden Centre, between Toddington and Westoning. The site offers excellent facilities for groups, including classroom space, private toilets and exclusive use of the nature reserve for learning. The reserve itself boasts a range of habitats including woodland, grassland and ponds.
From September 2011 we’re also able to offer the option of the Nature Discovery Base at Rushmere Park, near Leighton Buzzard, for school visits. Situated in the newly established country park, the base provides classroom facilities and a range of opportunities for learning and activities throughout this beautiful estate.
The Greensand Trust is an independent environmental charity, which relies on the support of the public and grants to fund its activities, and no profit is made from our education service. The charge for sessions represents good value for money, and our experienced staff are able to support you with planning and organising your visit from start to finish to ensure a quality experience for your pupils.
