Oak Wood
Location: West of Stockgrove Country Park
Map reference: SP 920 294
Size: c100 acres
Owner: The Greensand Trust

The wood consists of 100 acres of predominantly conifer plantations. Some remnants of ancient heaths survive here and in places the trees and bracken have been cleared to encourage its regeneration.  At the southern end there is an attractive valley of wet woodland with small ponds and a stream.  The wood is a County Wildlife Site.  In winter bird migrants such as crossbills & siskins are seen; spring brings out the warblers and in spring & summer woodland butterflies are common.
