The Greensand Trust has succesfully raised the funds to purchase Stanbridge Meadows County Wildlife Site through the SOS Appeal. Thank you to everyone who donated to and supported the appeal!
Stanbridge Meadows County Wildlife Site, also known as RAF Stanbridge, on the edge of Leighton Linslade is a superb hillside site with fantastic views over the town and surrounding countryside. It is also a haven for wildlife, being a rare example of species-rich lowland meadow. Now the meadows will be looked after by the Greensand Trust in perpetuity.
Located on the edge of town, off Leighton Road and adjacent to Billington Park, the meadows were not officially open for public use and were vulnerable to the spread of housing development. Very little conservation management in recent years has seen their condition deteriorate. However, this will be improved now the Greensand Trust own the site and will work with volunteers in the community to enhance and maintain it for the benefit of both people and wildlife .
The meadows will provide a peaceful area of open space in which wildlife can flourish and local people can enjoy the outdoors.
