Comprising of 80 acres, the Stockgrove Estate has an interesting history dating back to medieval times. It has a visitor centre & a variety or habitats including a lake, ancient woodland conifer plantations, meadows and heath.
BBQ’s are allowed in the picnic area if raised off the ground (not on picnic tables)
There is designated Disabled Parking and a wheelchair is available to borrow – please book.
No fishing or model boats are permitted on the lake and you are asked not to feed the ducks or the squirrels which are becoming a pest and impacting the quality of the lake and surrounding areas for other wildlife.
The wood consists of 100 acres of predominantly conifer plantations.
The Greensand Ridge Walk runs through the site. A number of public paths also give access from Heath and Reach, Three Locks, Stoke Hammond and Great Brickhill enabling circular walks incorporating Oak Wood. Various permissive paths add to the network within the site. The Bedfordshire County Council Stockgrove circular walk leaflet includes a section in Oak Wood.

The Heath is generally grazed by sheep and ponies and dogs must be kept on a lead when these are present in the Spring and Summer.
The Greensand Ridge Walk runs along the northern edge of the site. Various permissive paths add to the network within the site and also into the neighbouring woodland and nature reserve. Please keep to these marked paths. Some areas are not accessible to the public so as to conserve important wildlife and vegetation and other areas are privately owned

This is a part restored pit, part of it is a sports ground the other part was planted as a community woodland in 2006. The Geology of Stone Lane pit is important and the ancient settlement of Overend Green is nearby.Sports area only for H & R Sports Association. An interpretation panel at top of hill in the woodland gives details about the site.
Other points of interest occur nearby and are explained by local interpretation boards:

The Trust acts as Manager for this ex-quarry which is partly filled in with asphalt etc. from the neighbouring plant. It is now also being transformed into a nature reserve. There is a small area of scrub, grassland, ponds and unique lichen heath on dumped asphalt. The area is managed by mowing, rabbits, and coppicing and scrub control. The old asphalt plant has been landscaped with ponds ready for natural regeneration. Great Crested Newts occur on the site and Warblers can be seen in spring. Dragonflies are present May-August, Butterflies spring - summer and Lichens can be seen all year round.
Paths allow access only to Nature Reserve and link to permissive footpaths from Heath and Reach (Sandhouse Link) and to A5 (via Jones' Pit). There is no access to the area of the old asphalt plant.
