Rushmere Country Park

Heron Watch is back at the park this year - come and view the herons from the deck, see live footage from the atrium screen, read our volunteer blog and check out our regular live streams!

Following two seasons where our visitor centre was closed, we're delighted to be able to provide the opportunity for visitors to return this year to see the herons nesting in Heron Valley.

We will be providing limited binoculars and the telescope for visitors to use - this will be managed by our volunteers who will ensure that they are cleaned between each user.

You will be able to see live action from selected nests which are fitted with a camera feeding live images through to our TV screen in the atrium, taking you inside the nest from the first egg to feeding chicks and the first flight! We intend to also live stream some of this footage via our Facebook page.

For our younger visitors we have an activity sheet and they can measure themselves against the heron height chart to see if they are as tall as a heron.

We will be running the Heron Watch on a socially distanced basis and will encourage hand sanitising and facemasks when in close proximity to another person to keep everyone safe.

Our Heron Watch volunteers will be conducting their usual wildlife survey and contributing their observations to our blog of interesting activity:

Our photographic volunteer Alan took these incredible shots of nesting pairs high up in the nests in previous years:
