Working Woodlands Project

The Working Woodlands project aims to protect, enhance and promote the woodlands of the Greensand Ridge for their biodiversity, heritage and recreational value, their role in the landscape, as providers of ecosystem services, and as part of the rural economy.

Main objectives of the project are to:

  • better understand our local woodlands, their importance, the challenges they face and possible solutions
  • raise awareness of the importance of our local woodlands and their management and encourage people to visit and enjoy them responsibly
  • promote the beneficial and sustainable management of our local woodlands
  • continue to develop the Working Woodlands Centre as a base for training, education and visiting Maulden Wood, and as a focus for woodland initiatives on the Greensand Ridge

For those with some experience of leading guided walks, or who have completed Part 1 of this course’, Guy and Jane Lambourne of Wassledine will open your eyes to a wide range of exciting possibilities, simple and elaborate, that could be used to broaden the appeal of a guided walk.

Saturday 9th October, 10am - 3.30pm, The Working Woodlands Centre, Maulden Wood, MK45 3UZ

You will also have a chance to try some out in a comfortable and supportive environment. Adding to Guy’s expertise in leading guided walks, as a storyteller and environmental education specialist, Jane has a treasure box full of ideas at her fingertips, to add something a little different to your walks. Together they are well placed to offer advice and suggest ways to make your walks safe, smooth and well organised, broaden their appeal, make your messages more memorable and challenge you and your fellow leaders.

The course will cover:

  • A different or broader audience
  • An entertaining walk
  • Different types of walks
  • Making walks memorable
  • Using different techniques
  • Developing skills
  • Bringing in the skills of others

Cost: £40 for volunteers living or volunteering within the Greensand Country area /£150 for professionals
