A morning of mindful drawing at Maulden Heath for all abilities

The perfect way to take your mind off everyday life and bring attention to the present moment. This is a great introduction to achieving mindfulness through drawing from the world around us, so past experience of drawing or mindfulness is definitely not a requirement.

All you need is something to draw on and something to draw with - a biro, charcoal, pencil, watercolours. There will be a brief introduction to the reserve, and plenty of time for drawing, exploring mindfulness, and chatting.

Parking and meet up point at The Working Woodlands Centre car park in the Deadman’s Hill lay-by on the A6 north of Clophill. A 10-minute walk to Maulden Heath from the car park on a forest track. No surfaced path and uneven surfaces on the heath itself.

Adults and older children only please and no dogs.

Maulden Heath

Maulden Heath, an area within Maulden Wood which belongs to Forestry England, consists of grassland, dry lichen heath and conifer plantation where heathland is now being created, thanks to The Greensand Trust.

Address – within Maulden Wood (access via Deadman's Lay-by off the A6 MK45 3UZ)

Grid reference of centre of site – TL069385

Maulden Heath is an area of around 30ha within Maulden Wood consisting of fields of undulating grassland, dry lichen heath and former conifer plantation on which heathland is being created.  It is managed by grazing.  Most of the area lies on sandy soils and so supports species that thrive on warm, well-drained soils such as harebell, gorse, sheep’s sorrel, solitary bees and reptiles.  In contrast, one field lies on clay and has a colourful show of meadow flowers such as black knapweed, ox-eye daisy and lady’s bedstraw in the summer.

This event is kindly supported as part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s Active Outdoors programme - the booking fee of £2 goes towards the administrative costs of The Greensand Trust which is run on a not for profit basis.
