Rushmere Country Park

An introduction to practising mindfulness through drawing the world around us

Mindfulness means being aware of and bringing attention to the current moment – something that is simple in theory but can be difficult with the busyness of everyday life. This event is an opportunity to take time to be outside in nature and use different drawing practices to achieve a more mindful state. There is no requirement for you to have any experience of mindfulness or even drawing. This event is suitable for complete beginners as well as experts. This morning isn’t about creating works of art, but spending time outside in the natural world and using sketching to really appreciate and be present in our surroundings.

What will you need?

All you need is something to draw on and something to draw with – a biro, pencils, charcoal. There will be a brief introduction to Rushmere and plenty of time for drawing, exploring mindfulness, and chatting.

Who is it aimed at?

Adults and older chlldren (10+) only please and no dogs.

Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

What about anyone with mobility issues?

There will be a short walk away from the car park to where we will base ourselves. In this natural setting there are some slopes, uneven ground, and trip hazards. Mostly, the morning will be spent seated, sketching.

Anyone with health or mobility issues who wishes to take part, please let us know in advance of the event and we will then we do our best to cater to everyone.

  • We will meet at one of the picnic benches in the dog free area.
  • Facilities available at car park. Toilets and a café.

Don't take our word for it!

Fiona and Hannah took part in a previous session of Mindful Drawing with Ranger Jen at Stanbridge Meadows and sent in this lovely feedback:
We really immersed ourselves into the beauty of the natural surroundings at the unspoilt site and the drawing session gave us time to focus on being in the here and now. Two hours of bliss which flew by. We were impressed by the informative talk you gave about achieving mindfulness through drawing and the day was a complete success with a lovely group of participants. Thank you for an amazing morning on a beautiful sunny day.

This event is kindly supported as part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s Active Outdoors programme - the booking fee of £2 goes towards the administrative costs of The Greensand Trust which is run on a not for profit basis.
