The Greensand Trust is calling on Houghton Regis residents of all ages and visitors to Houghton Hall Park to get involved in a number of opportunities on offer at the park, made possible thanks to a joint venture by Central Bedfordshire Council and Houghton Regis Town Council and supported by Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery Funding.

If you’ve visited Houghton Hall Park recently, you’ve no doubt seen evidence of recent investment made to improve this much loved recreational facility. To continue this work, the Trust needs the local community to get stuck in - it’s a great opportunity to try something new, so come along and give it a try!

With your involvement The Greensand Trust will:

  • Lead monthly conservation tasks with volunteers to improve Houghton Hall Park for wildlife and the local community who use it. Get involved with the “Green Gym” – a great way to exercise outdoors while doing something worthwhile, making friends and having fun.
  • Support local schools who wish to visit the park. Ask your teacher to get in touch to learn more about educational opportunities at Houghton Hall Park enabling young people to learn more about this wonderful site on their doorstep.
  • Offer a Youth Ranger Scheme for young people aged 13-18, an opportunity to learn new skills, gain valuable work experience and a recognised environmental award the John Muir Award. With 12 sessions over 6 months, the scheme starts in September – places are limited so please register your interest now!

Greensand Trust Chief Executive Gill Welham said: “As an environmental charity dedicated to working with local communities to conserve and promote the distinctive landscape, wildlife and history of the area, we’re delighted to be able to offer these opportunities to local residents and visitors to improve access, understanding and enjoyment of this wonderful park.

“Anyone getting involved in any of these projects will benefit enormously in a number of ways by increasing their skills and knowledge, improving employability, health and giving something back to their local community.”
