Eagle-eyed visitors straying from the main paths in Rushmere Country Park this summer may have spotted some strange earthworks and timber constructions deep in a wooded valley. The Greensand Trust team at Rushmere Country Park was sworn to secrecy about what was going on but now the secret is out - global mountain bike superstar Matt Jones was filming a promotional video in the park for one of his major sponsors Red Bull.

Locally born Matt, one of a number of Red Bull UK elite athletes, has competed in New Zealand, France, Germany and Austria this year but still found time to spend several weeks over this year to work with Kye Forte and his trail builders to create the awe-inspiring runs in the park and then show how a mountain bike superstar can perform on them.

Matt's video “Frames of Mind” captures his skill, nerve and fearsome ability - it was premiered in London this month and we were delighted that two Trust volunteers, Callum Rhead and Callum Campbell who helped with the track works, were able to attend on our behalf.

An interview on the making of the video is also featured in the current edition of The Red Bulletin.

Looking ahead, the Trust is revamping its cycle trails to cater for a broad range of cyclists. The cross country routes are being tweaked and new signage installed - they were recently used by Milton Keynes mountain bike retailer Trek to promote its 2018 range of bikes.

The Jump Area created by Red Bull is currently closed but parts will be available to competent and experienced riders in the New Year.

A longer term ambition is for an easy, short family cycling circuit to provide for the many youngsters who come here with their family.
