We're seeking a highly motivated individual to lead front of house in the Tree Tops Cafe at Rushmere Country Park ensuring that food is served to a consistently high standard, while promoting catering services, maximising revenue and profitability and adding to the customer experience.

Main Areas of responsibility:

Front of House

  • Co-ordinate all front of house operations, ensuring staff are effectively deployed
  • Deliver a consistently high level of customer service so that customer expectations are exceeded
  • To oversee and prioritise service to ensure customers are served efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Promote and maintain high standards of personal presentation and personal hygiene
  • Promote and maintain high standards of Café presentation, ensuring a welcoming clean, safe and hygienic environment
  • Ensure that counters, fridges, display units and vending machines are clean, well presented and adequately stocked with only in date goods
  • Ensure that front of house staff are well presented and deliver excellent customer service
  • Work closely with the Chef/ Catering Manager to ensure a co-ordinated and timely approach is achieved and maintained
  • Work with the management team in planning & presenting The Greensand Trust programmes and special events
  • To provide cover in emergencies/holiday/absences
  • Ensure exhibits inside and outside are clean, safe and operational, reporting faults to technical staff as appropriate

Payment transactions

  • Ensure that tills are prepared and be responsible for the daily cashing up and reporting of takings.
  • Process takings from the vending machines.
  • Monitor cash differences, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and losses are minimised.
  • Work with the Chef / Catering Manager in recording and reconciling cash receipts.
  • Ensure the Trust cash handling procedures are followed at all times.

Leadership and Support

  • Manage the team of catering assistants/enablers. Identify staff training needs and facilitate the recruitment, training and appraisal of catering assistants.
  • Prepare front of house team rotas, ensuring that appropriate staff levels are set to meet known peaks and troughs, keeping staffing costs to a minimum level consistent with service requirements
  • Ensure that staff are advised of their rota’s in good time and attend accordingly, reporting any issues of lateness, non-attendance etc.
  • To be a first point of contact for catering assistant HR related issues
  • Work closely with Kitchen staff and other Team Leaders to co-ordinate support as required to deliver good service, providing ‘hands-on’ service when required.
  • Contribute to the development of new ways to enhance visitor engagement with food and eating at Rushmere Country Park

Customer Service

  • Lead the team in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Respond to customer feedback in an appropriate manner, taking actions with the relevant internal departments
  • Monitor customer flow and make adjustments where needed to speed up service and meet internal and external customer demands.
  • Take account of customer feedback and trends when contributing to the menu planning process and creating special food events.

Housekeeping and Safety

  • Ensure that appropriate food hygiene standards are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that stock is appropriately displayed and rotated and that out of date or unfit stock is removed.
  • Ensure that all front of house areas are kept clean and tidy, with a thorough clean at the end of each day.
  • Carry out regular checks of front of house equipment and premises to ensure safe and good working order. Report faults and arrange maintenance as required.
  • Report any accidents and near misses in line with Rushmere Country Park’s Accident Reporting Policy.
  • Co-ordinate the evacuation process according to procedure.
  • Ensure the security of Rushmere Country Park’s visitors, staff, cash and property by following procedures.

General

  • During the absence of the Food Services Manager provide support to their cover.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably expected of a Team Leader.
  • To ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to, in line with Legislation and Trust Policies

Details of education required and qualifications needed:

  • Five Grade C GCSE, or equivalent, in English and Maths
  • Qualified or willing to be qualified in First Aid at Work
  • A qualification in hospitality, catering or a related area desirable

Details of special skills/experience/aptitudes needed:

  • Experience within a similar environment desirable
  • Supervisory experience beneficial
  • Flexible and willing approach
  • Experienced in cash handling and reconciliation
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Excellent personal presentation and personal hygiene standards
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good team player
  • Self-motivated, ability to effectively prioritise tasks
  • Calm under pressure and able to organise and deal with multiple tasks, allocate work effectively and respond quickly to changes in demands
  • Ability to use email, word and spreadsheets

Any other considerations:

  • Weekend and bank holiday working
  • There will be limited flexibility in taking time off during school holidays

Hours of work: Annualised Contract - no fixed working hours applicable to your employment. Your normal working hours are based upon your working 2,080 hours per 52-week year (1 April to 31 March) based on 40 hours per week, Sunday to Saturday.

Salary: £19-20K dependent on experience

Annual leave entitlement: 28 days working days holiday in each complete holiday year inclusive of statutory and public holidays, pro rata in accordance with hours worked 

Pension: If you are eligible, The Greensand Trust will auto-enrol you into a pension scheme, in accordance with The Greensand Trust pension auto-enrolment obligations.

Vehicle & travel requirements: Due to our location your own vehicle is essential.

On occasions you may be required to visit other offices in the local area. A mileage allowance is given for travel in your own vehicle.
