Working Woodlands ProjectThe Working Woodlands project aims to protect, enhance and promote the woodlands of the Greensand Ridge for their biodiversity, heritage and recreational value, their role in the landscape, as providers of ecosystem services, and as part of the rural economy. Main objectives of the project are to: better understand our local woodlands, their importance, the challenges they face and possible solutions raise awareness of the importance of our local woodlands and their management and encourage people to visit and enjoy them responsibly promote the beneficial and sustainable management of our local woodlands continue to develop the Working Woodlands Centre as a base for training, education and visiting Maulden Wood, and as a focus for woodland initiatives on the Greensand Ridge About the centre Facilities Find us Events News Learning activities Bookings Support Get involved Our appeals Woolnough Fund for Action Donate Fundraise Celebrating the life of Richard Woolnough Richard led the Greensand Project for five years before using his powers of persuasion to establish The Greensand Trust in 1999 with Peter Smith (Chairman) which he then led for another nine years until he retired. Richard was a true champion of the environment, both inspiring and unorthodox, his vision created far more than The Greensand Trust, helping to shape the environment by acting both strategically and with others, in the interest of the environment and its communities. The Greensand Trust would like to celebrate his life and work by establishing a fund dedicated in his name, to enable actions which benefit the Greensand Area and its communities.
