Find a Volunteer Opportunity

Join our team of happy volunteers and help us to improve the environment for the benefit of all. Opportunities range from practical and conservation tasks, caring for nature reserves and leading walks to litter picking, assisting with Education visits and activities or helping visitors enjoy themselves. We have a range of volunteering opportunities to offer in various locations across the Greensand Ridge - if you have some time, no matter how little, and the commitment to help us, we’d love to hear from you.

Practical and Conservation

Join our ‘green gym’ carrying out a wide range of habitat management and estates works on our sites across the Greensand Ridge. Learn new skills, make new friends and have some fun along the way. All sessions are supervised by Greensand Trust rangers and we provide tools and equipment.

Heron Watch

From February to June each year we rely on our Heron Watch volunteers to speak to visitors from the Visitor Centre at Rushmere Country Park about our nesting grey herons. From 11.00 to 3.00 everyday, the video cameras and telescopes allow visitors close views of these fascinating birds in the wild and all the nest activity. No specialist knowledge is required just a love of nature and a friendly persona.

Visitor Services

A fantastic opportunity for people who like meeting and helping others. By welcoming visitors in the Visitor Centre at Rushmere Country Park, providing information and answering questions you will be improving their visitor experience. A happy face and a warm greeting can make the difference between a grey day and a great visit.

Car park marshal

Be the first face visitors see and provide them with an enjoyable and memorable visit. During peak times of the year we require volunteers to help organise and navigate vehicles, monitor car parks, ensure efficient parking and deal with enquires. You will need to be over 18 years old and enjoy working outside.

Education

Help us to make learning fun by joining our Education volunteers, reconnecting people to their local environment and engaging them with the natural world. Assist in the preparation and support the delivery of varied educational sessions and events to school classes, youth groups and the Scouting and Guiding Movements.

Site Warden

Assist rangers by patrolling and maintaining Greensand Trust Sites across the Greensand Ridge and help create a better nature reserve for people and wildlife. This role is flexible to suit your availability and commitments .

Events

Enjoy Greensand Trust events free by assisting with our events. Event volunteers play a big part in creating a good atmosphere and the great thing about volunteering at an event is that there are so many different things to do on the day. If you’re looking for a role that’s hands on and if you have loads of enthusiasm this is for you.

Public Talks

Use your knowledge and confident public speaking skills to support the Greensand Trust. Present short talks to members of the public to raise awareness and funds. You don't need to be an expert, we offer ongoing support and presentation training.

Guided Walks

Help people to get active, use your natural enthusiasm and people skills to engage with visitors by leading guided walks. These could be child friendly tours, wildlife tours and more – depending upon your knowledge and interests.
