Working Woodlands Project

The Working Woodlands project aims to protect, enhance and promote the woodlands of the Greensand Ridge for their biodiversity, heritage and recreational value, their role in the landscape, as providers of ecosystem services, and as part of the rural economy.

Main objectives of the project are to:

  • better understand our local woodlands, their importance, the challenges they face and possible solutions
  • raise awareness of the importance of our local woodlands and their management and encourage people to visit and enjoy them responsibly
  • promote the beneficial and sustainable management of our local woodlands
  • continue to develop the Working Woodlands Centre as a base for training, education and visiting Maulden Wood, and as a focus for woodland initiatives on the Greensand Ridge

Why we need volunteers

Volunteer for Us

Join our friendly team of volunteers and help us improve the environment to benefit us all

We Can’t Do It Without You

Our volunteers are an essential part of our team helping to secure the future of many habitats and species and making wildlife and green spaces more accessible. If you want ‘to put something back’ or ‘make a difference’ then volunteering for The Greensand Trust is for you.

It’s Fun!

Volunteers bring lots of enthusiasm, skills and interests. Meet and work alongside like-minded people of all ages and backgrounds, improve your CV, see and help amazing wildlife and get fit. You’ll have a sense of achievement from seeing a good job done and knowing that you’re helping a great cause. Where appropriate we offer training and development to help you help us. As your experience grows, so do we - great news for our wildlife and environment!
