Throughout the area are traces of the past from local sandstone churches and walls to the estates and parklands once prevalent along the Greensand Ridge. Read more
The geology and history of land use on the Greensand Ridge makes its landscape subtly distinct from its surroundings - more undulating and wooded, with a higher density of parklands. Read more
Settlements have dotted the Ridge from the Bronze age onwards, with evidence of Iron age farming and a Roman presence at a number of sites. Moated sites and historic villages cores have strong medieval links. Read more
