The scheme is a perfect opportunity for young people interested in conservation and the environment to learn new skills, gain valuable work experience and a recognised environmental award, while having fun and making a difference to the environment and the local community.

The Youth Ranger Scheme, has received a boost thanks to sponsorship from Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd as part of its Grassroots 150 campaign which donates to worthy causes as part of the company’s 150th anniversary. The Greensand Trust was proposed as a recipient by Lorraine Parker, sustainability administrator at the company who also volunteers for the Greensand Trust as part of the Visitor Services team at Rushmere Country Park. Greensand Trust Chief Executive Gill Welham said: “We’re extremely grateful to Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd and its Grassroots 150 Committee for this donation and particularly to Lorraine for applying and securing this wonderful award and for the gift of her time supporting our visitor services at Rushmere Country Park.

“By investing in our Youth Ranger Scheme Work Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd is helping a new generation of young people to get involved as volunteers while receiving valuable training and an insight into what’s involved in a career caring for the environment.”
