Establishment works continue at Clophill Lakes

Site establishment works are making good progress despite severe delays caused by adverse weather in the past couple of months, with significant flooding in areas delaying works and causing some damage in areas.

No public access

While the new nature reserve continues to be developed, it’s essential that members of the public do not enter what is essentially a building site for their safety and to protect the ecology of the site.

Habitat work

Habitat works have also been ongoing to remove scrub and improve grassland and wetland diversity. We’ve also been clearing ditches and restoring drainage channels, whilst monitoring the ecology and hydrology of the site. We continue to monthly monitoring of wildlife at the site including wetland birds, flocks of siskins in the alder and birch trees and stonechats in the rough grassland. Cetti’s warblers were heard in the lakeside vegetation before Christmas for the first time. These birds inhabit reedbeds and dense, scrubby vegetation, typically near water.

Charity fundraising appeal

Our fundraising appeal is still ongoing – we’re very grateful to everyone that has contributed so far. We welcome any contributions to this worthy local cause.

Please give whatever you can – thank you.
