Aspley Woods

Aspley Woods is approximately 326ha of mainly conifer plantation woodland with some areas of semi-ancient natural woodland, that lies between Woburn Sands, Bow Brickhill and Aspley Guise.

The main car park is situated at Grid Reference SP925336.

Access is maintained by The Greensand Trust, under an agreement between landowners Bedford Estates and local councils.

Danesborough Hill (scheduled ancient monument) and Wavendon Ponds (SSSI) exist within the site.

The site is subject to bylaws. Horse riders and cyclists are only allowed on permissive routes when in possession of a valid Greensand Bike Pass or Greensand Horse Riding Pass.

Walk the Ridge: Led Greensand Ridge Walks

As part of the Greensand Country Festival, we are running led walks along the Greensand Ridge Route. The walks will be broken down into 3 manageable sections (no more than 14 miles) and will take place on Saturdays.
‘Outfall Safari’ yields results!

Environmental charities putting peat on the map

The Greensand Trust and its collaborative initiative the Greensand Country Landscape Partnership, working with The Wildlife Trust Beds, Cambs & Northants has launched a new project “Putting Peat on the Map” - focussing on improving our understanding of peat along the River Flit in Bedfordshire.

Maulden Woods

Our head office is located at the entrance to Maulden Woods - but this site belongs to Forestry England.
Edgewick Farm

Edgewick Farm is owned by the Woburn Sands Town Council, but is managed with help from The Greensand Trust, The Edgewick Farm Advisory Group and The Friends of Edgewick Farm.
Ampthill Park

Ampthill Park has a bit of everything - tremendous views from The Greensand Ridge, a fascinating heritage from Henry VIII to Capability Brown, and a diverse collection of flora and fauna. Working closely with Ampthill Town Council, The Greensand Trust helps manage Ampthill Park and other sites around Ampthill.
Studham Common

Studham Common, located only five miles from Luton Town Centre, has been used as common land for centuries. Today this beautiful open space is a highly prized feature of the village, valued by the community as a place of recreation and a haven for wildlife.
Working Woodlands Centre

The Working Woodlands Centre is located in the lay-by off the A6 between Haynes West End and Clophill at the entrance to Maulden Wood.

Flitton Moor

Flitton Moor is a Local Nature Reserve owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and looked after by the Friends of Flitton Moor, with the help of Greensand Trust volunteers. It is an area of flower-rich wet grassland, grazed by cattle, with two ponds and small belts of trees.
Heath Wood and Meadows

Heath Wood consists of mixed woodland on sand planted on former heathland. The site is managed for informal recreation for the local community whilst maintaining ecological interest of its grassland and woodland habitats.
King St & Avery's

An area of riverside land with the River Ouzel running along its western boundary, it is located 1km north of Leighton Buzzard Town Centre.
Knolls Wood

An area of mixed ornamental woodland on sand planted on former heathland during the 1800s, Knolls Wood is notable for its avenue of Monkey Puzzle trees and various other specimen trees including giant redwoods.

Cycling

Cyclists are welcome at Rushmere Country Park and Woburn Woods. Free access via public rights of way and our new Family Trail at Rushmere, plus specialist cross country and downhill trails for use with the purchase of a Greensand Cycling Pass.
Parking at Rushmere

Pay for parking before you leave by app (use our free WiFi) at our two payment machines or in the visitor centre when open.
Dog walking

Responsible dog owners are welcome at Rushmere Country Park within designated areas - both on and off the lead. For everyone's safety dog walkers must abide by our on/off lead rules and pick up after their dog.
